Located beside the North Gate and within walking distance of Taipei Main Station, Taipei Memory Warehouse was originally the former warehouse of Mitsui & Co., built between 1913 and 1914 during the Japanese colonial period. This well-preserved red-brick historic building is one of the few remaining structures in Taiwan that still bears the iconic diamond-shaped Mitsui emblem. Situated near the Tamsui River, Dadaocheng Wharf, and Taipei Main Station, it bears witness to Taipei's transformation from a river-port trading hub to a modern railway city.
As part of the Taipei West Gateway Project, the entire building was carefully relocated 51 meters east in 2016 for preservation and reopened in 2018 as the Taipei Memory Warehouse. Today, it serves as an exhibition space combining history, urban culture, and visitor information. Through interactive displays and historical artifacts, the museum explores Taiwan's forest resources, commodity trade, river basin development, and the evolution of Taipei as a modern city.
As an important landmark within the North Gate cultural district, Taipei Memory Center also connects nearby heritage sites including North Gate, the Railway Department Park, Futai Street Mansion, and the Beimen Post Office, making it an ideal starting point for discovering the rich history and architectural heritage of Taipei's old town.
